B&A’s RESIDENCE
Renovation & extension of a private residence.
Located in a green residential area outside Brussels, this project transforms a 1960s single-family house into a contemporary home designed for a family with four children. The intervention combines a respectful renovation of the existing structure with the addition of a lightweight timber upper floor, creating generous bedrooms and functional bathrooms while freeing the ground floor for bright, open living spaces.
Architecturally, the project is defined by simple, clear volumes. The new wooden upper level contrasts subtly with the light-colored plaster of the original house, creating a harmonious yet dynamic composition. The extension enhances the existing volumetry without overpowering it, ensuring a balanced integration into the surrounding landscape.
Large openings enhance natural light and strengthen the connection to the landscaped garden, which remains largely preserved. Energy efficiency is central to the design, integrating advanced insulation, a heat pump, and photovoltaic panels to achieve high performance standards.
This project reinterprets the original building with a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, offering a warm, sustainable home that embraces its natural setting.
